| Our small town,
GOURDON, close to world famous ROCAMADOUR with its dizzying cliff-faces, is situated
in one of the richest historical region in France. It is impossible to talk
about Gourdon without talking about its prehistoric past. Our region offers the
biggest concentration of prehistoric sites in the world. A visit of these
sites is a MUST, such as: |
- the Caves of COUGNAC which are characterised by a wonderful
mineral vegetation and prehistoric paintings dated 25,000 to 14,000 B.C.

- the world famous paleolithic sanctuary of LASCAUX.

- LE THOT / ESPACE CRO-MAGNON. This
museum provides a broadvision of prehistoric art, especially with the pedagogic
area. It is a perfect introduction to Lascaux and to all the prehistoric sites
